Wesley School is located in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Wesley is a small, Christian International-style School founded in 1972 to serve English speaking children of expatriate Christian workers and other expatriates in our area. Up until 1997 we were only an elementary school. In 1997 the decision was taken to expand the school up through high school. The first senior class graduated in 2001.
Almost all Wesley graduates continue their education at a 4 year institution. Alumni of Wesley have studied at major universities in South Korea, United States, Australia, and Canada, including Harvard University, Duke University, Vanderbilt University, Wheaton College, Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, and University of Western Australia.
Our school is located in the foothills of Java’s central mountain ridge, which gives us a pleasant, tropical climate year round with temperatures ranging from 75 – 90°F (24-32°C), and lower humidity than coastal areas. The city of Malang has a population of nearly 1 million and is known for its universities, its good weather and its peacefulness. Malang is a very developed city with numerous western restuarants, taxis, shopping malls, and swimming pools. However, bicycle rickshaws, open markets, and beggars are routine sites. A few minutes-drive puts you into hand-tilled rice paddies and the ruins of ancient Hindu temples. Malang is located 2 hours south of an international airport (Malang does have a domestic airport which flies to Jakarta and Bali) and 2 hours north of the sparsely populated south Java coast, home to rare hornbills, nesting sea turtles and secluded white sand beaches. A 40-minute flight lands you on the beaches of Bali, a major tourist destination.
Our goal at Wesley is to inspire students to live Godly lives. Our efforts to produce academic excellence in our students are rooted in the desire to see Christ exalted in and through their lives as they impact the world around them.
One of the most striking things about Wesley School is its scenic location and resort-like campus. With towering palm trees, tropical plants, and lush green grass, the campus is an invigorating and inviting learning environment. Wesley boasts a gymnasium, covered outdoor courts, and a large soccer field. It also has great playground area for elementary-aged students.
