For World Cup, Qatar Tourism Undertakes a Large Training Campaign

Qatar Tourism has launched a digital tourism training program aimed at all frontline personnel in the sector, with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 111 days away (at the time of writing). From hotel concierges to mall security workers to restaurant waiters, the new ‘Qatar Host’ initiative aims to upskill employees so that they can provide “service excellence” to both international and domestic guests.

To achieve a great customer journey, Qatar’s Tourism Service Excellence Programme employs a multi-pronged strategy. Qatar Tourism analyzes frontline personnel across sectors and offers training and certifications in conjunction with stakeholders to ensure the highest level of professional service for guests. To improve service quality, the program will continue to grow and include more stakeholders.

HE Akbar Al Baker, chairman of Qatar Tourism and CEO of Qatar Airways Group, remarked on the occasion, “We are thrilled to announce the introduction of the ‘Qatar Host’ training program.” The enhancement of the visitor experience is integral to our tourism strategy, which is an important component of the country’s economic diversification strategy. This program will provide frontline employees in Qatar with the tools and abilities they need to provide best-in-class service and guest experiences that position Qatar as a premier destination.”

“The program’s goal is to provide a new training paradigm and standardize knowledge,” he continued. It is critical for visitor-facing personnel to understand how they contribute to visitor happiness. The job’s objective is not only to accomplish their immediate jobs, but also to deliver enjoyable experiences with each direct encounter, whether verbal or nonverbal.”

Qatar Tourism Needs More Talents

With 1.5 million expected to visit Qatar for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the month-long event might surpass Qatar’s total arrivals in 2019. (2.1 million). To deal with the influx of visitors, the country is preparing more personnel for the event. For example, Accor is now hiring for 12,000 temporary hospitality jobs as part of its participation in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. According to Accor CEO Sébastien Bazin, the company requires personnel to maintain the country’s 65,000 vacant apartments, residences, and villas.

The Recovery of European Tourism Has Been Underway

According to the most recent edition of the European Tourism Trends & Prospects quarterly study, recovery is in full motion as we approach the peak summer season in 2022, with consumers’ savings from the epidemic projected to support travel demand.

According to The European Travel Commission (ETC), Europe will regain 70% of pre-Covid travel demand this year. ETC President Luis Arajo stated, “Covid-19 limitations have been lifted, and people are keen to make up for two years of missed travel chances.” We are seeing a more faster recovery than travel companies in Europe had anticipated, and employee shortages may prove to be an impediment to a full recovery. Bringing back talent and making employment in the industry more appealing are the main priorities for European tourism recovery in the next months.

Given the stronger-than-expected European Tourism rebound in demand in 2022, the persistent labor supply lag is causing staff shortages across the European tourism and tourist sector. As a result, many European destinations may struggle to meet this summer’s strong demand. Therefore Sky Concierge Network would like to fill the  gap, especially in concierge service.

Although there are serious workforce shortages in the hospitality industry, the aviation sector is currently grabbing headlines. During the pandemic, over 190,000 European aviation workers were laid off. Despite airline and airport recruitment initiatives, the sector is unlikely to be able to respond during the high summer season.
